米軍は戦闘服を正式に採用する前にジャケットを実験的に試作し、実際に任務を遂行して改良の余地がないかを確かめた。このジャケットもその一つで、温帯地域の低木地で着用することを想定して実験的に作られた野戦服である。1940年代から60年代にかけて、米軍の活動地域は世界中に広がっていた。特に50年代前半は極寒の朝鮮半島、中期には熱帯のベトナムに軍事顧問団を派遣しており、多数の戦闘服が製造されていた。このT-54にはフロントに4つのポケットがあり、いずれもフラップが付いてボタンで留める仕様はM-43フィールドジャケットを彷彿させるディテールである。50年代に試行錯誤を繰り返した温帯地域のフィールドジャケットは、60年代に登場するファティーグジャケットへと引き継がれて行った。

The US military experimented with their garments before formally adopting combat uniforms, and actually tested them on missions to find any room for improvement. This jacket is one of them. It is an experimental field jacket designed to be worn in the bush of temperate regions. From the 1940s to the 1960s, the US military’s area of operations spread around the world. In particular, in the early 1950s, military advisors were dispatched to the bitterly cold Korean Peninsula, and in the middle of the decade to tropical Vietnam. A large number of combat uniforms were manufactured during this time. The T-54 has four front pockets, all with flaps and button closures, a detail reminiscent of the M-43 field jacket. Field jackets for temperate regions were tried and tested in the 1950s, and were passed on to the fatigues that appeared in the 1960s.
